One day I was inside a coffee-house when a person came up to me, asked to speak with me in private, and we went out.
En dag var jag inne på ett kaffehus, då en person kom fram till mig, begärde att afsides få tala med mig, och vi gingo ut.

I was then told: “The King commands that tomorrow at 10 a.m. you present yourself in the room of the chamber servant Griberg at the palace—farewell!”

At the appointed hour I was at the place and made known the reason for my arrival. The chamber servant went in to the King, returned, opened the door to another room, and told me to remain there.
Den bestämda timmen var jag på stället och gaf tillkänna anledningen till min ankomst. Kammartjenaren gick in till Konungen, återkom, öppnade dörren till ett annat rum, tillsägande mig att der stanna.

After a few minutes the King came out in a so-called powdering gown, his head half dressed, and said: “I regret that this time I cannot save you; in certain regiments of the Finnish army the proper discipline is lacking among the corps of subalterns, an example must be made here, and you may of course avail yourself of your safe-conduct. Where do you intend to go?”
Efter några minuter kom Konungen ut i en så kallad puderkappa, halfklädd i hufvudet, och sade: ”Jag beklagar, att jag ej denna gången kan rädda er; inom finska arméens vissa regementen saknas hos subalternkorpsen vederbörlig disciplin, här måste statueras exempel och ni får ju gagna eder lejd. Hvarthän ämnar ni er?”
