A new exchange of words between them was heard; I was at some distance, but marched forward with the company in order to hear the altercation better; and when I heard the lieutenant treat this simple-minded comrade in the coarsest manner, I was imprudent enough to interfere in it and brought upon myself an equally boorish attack, which so enraged me that, without restraint, I conducted myself toward him so culpably that even with the utmost efforts of my Commanding Officer and my comrades I could never be saved.

A report was sent to the Major, our commander, and soon he was on the spot; we were called in for examination, and after obtaining information about the catastrophe that had occurred, he returned to the town to give a report of the event, since the Colonel was staying there.
Rapport afsändes till Majoren, vår Chef, och snart var han på stället; vi blefvo inkallade i förhör, och efter inhemtad upplysning om den timade katastrofen, återfor han till staden, för att afgifva rapport om händelsen, emedan Öfversten vistades der.
