Without the slightest connection to my son, and thus solely with the intention of securing a young man’s future happiness, this estimable house deigned to procure for him an engagement as a Förare with allotment pay at an Infantry Regiment, paid for the uniform, and gave fifty riksdaler to meet the expenses of the Regiment’s then impending military exercise.
Utan minsta relation till min son, således endast i afsigt att bereda en ynglings framtida lycka, täcktes detta aktningsvärda hus utverka för honom ett engagement såsom Förare med rotelön vid ett Infanteri-regemente, bekostade uniformen och skänkte 50 R:dr till bestridande af utgifterna vid Regementets då förestående vapenöfning.

He now ventured to disclose his wish eventually to obtain promotion to officer within the regiment, but was advised, as a man without means, never to think of it; wherefore he also left his service, which could be considered all the less enviable since it might possibly be given to the Commander’s well-regarded servant, and to all who had no claim to further promotion.
