Thus I have at last, after many years of striving for settled earthly prosperity, reached a boundary beyond which even thought now no longer dares to raise itself; and though I thus find myself at a point where I neither am what I could have been nor have what I could have had, I nevertheless am and have much in tranquility and in the consciousness of not having intentionally worked against a happier condition.
