In accordance with this command I presented myself at the appointed time, and after a while of waiting the Chamberlain came out with a sealed letter addressed to the Chief previously mentioned, whom I immediately visited in his official room and to whom I delivered the letter received at the Palace.
Enligt denna befallning inställde jag mig på utsatt tid, och efter en stunds väntan utkom Kammarherren med en förseglad skrifvelse, adresserad till den förr omnämnde Chefen, som jag genast besökte å dess embetsrum, och öfverlemnade till honom det på Slottet emottagna brefvet.

The Chairman, surrounded by all the members belonging to the department, broke open the letter and read aloud the King’s high recommendation that I be given a position within the department and that not the least thing be neglected that might bring me nearer to the goal.
Ordföranden, omringad af samtlige verket tillhörande ledamöter, bröt brefvet och uppläste högt Konungens höga förord, att man måtte lemna mig en plats inom verket och att ej åsidosätta det minsta, som kunde närma mig till målet.

The following day I visited all the members concerned, who jointly gratified me with promises that they perhaps never intended to fulfil.
Följande dagen gjorde jag besök hos alla vederbörande ledamöter, hvilka gemensamt hugnade mig med löften, som de till äfventyrs aldrig ämnade att uppfylla.

With this flattering preparation and with these promises, I therefore ought by no means to despair, but rather in the greatest calm await a day certain to come and fortunate for me.
