Few people could be gathered in haste, and so it was not conceivable to save the farm buildings; instead, everything had to be used to extinguish the fire in the already ignited dwelling house, which was saved only because the wind suddenly shifted directly opposite to what it had been, so that the assembled people could be of use.
Få menniskor kunde i hast samlas, alltså var icke tänkbart att rädda ladugårdshusen, utan borde allt användas för att släcka elden i den redan antända mangården, hvilken endast derigenom räddades, att vinden kastade sig hastigt tvärt emot hvad den varit, så att det samlade folket kunde göra nytta.

All the harvested crop of hay and grain, so unusually abundant that year, went up in flames together with almost all the field and driving implements, but by chance the livestock had not been tied indoors that night, whereby they escaped destruction; only a single one of the sheep that had been let out ran back into the fire and was lost.
All inbärgad gröda af hö och säd, detta året så ovanligt ymnig, uppgick i lågor tillika med nästan all åker- och kör-redskap, men kreaturen voro af en händelse den natten ej inbundne, hvarigenom de undgingo förstörelsen; blott ett enda af de utsläppta fåren sprang tillbaka i elden och förlorades.
